Skateboarder struck by truck

ELKO - An Elko man was transported to the hospital Saturday after he was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Third and Silver streets.

Elko police responded to a call at 2 p.m. Saturday after Glen Parker of Carlin struck Jack Bennet, 21, of Elko with his 1996 GMC Sierra pickup. According to the report, Parker yielded at the intersection to allow Bennet to cross on his skateboard. Rather than travel through the crosswalk as Parker anticipated, Bennet turned on his board and went into the travel lane.

According to Will Lehmann, acting lieutenant of the Elko Police Department, Parker “gunned it” - having expected Bennet to cross rather than travel in his lane of traffic - and accidentally struck him.

Bennet was transported to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital for non life-threatening injuries and Parker was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
