ELKO — A nationally recognized psychiatrist is opening an office in Elko next month.
Dr. Ron Zedek will be accepting patients beginning Oct. 15 at his office in The Terraces.
“We take all insurances, including Medicaid,” Zedek said.
Zedek has been in practice since 1991 and was the 1993 recipient of the Psychiatrist of the Year Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. He has offices in Las Vegas and Pahrump, and will be in Elko for a few days every two weeks.
“The longest anybody will have to wait to see me is two weeks,” he said.
Zedek specializes in children and adolescents with behavioral problems, especially irritability, aggression and hyperness. He does not require a referral, and patients without insurance can also make an appointment. Zedek sees patients ages 3 and older.
“My goal and mission is to bring modern psychiatry to Elko, Nev.,” Zedek said.
Daysha Ford, president of Nevada Behavioral Solutions, said she saw a need for the practice in Elko.
“I think there’s a huge need for what we do,” Ford said.
The office’s grand opening is Oct. 16.
Nevada Behavioral Solutions offers therapy, counseling, rehabilitation and day treatment.
“I basically diagnose and stabilize patients, and then refer them back to their doctor,” Zedek said.
He has already been working closely with Tuni Theonnes and other psychiatric nurse practitioners in town.
“I will be working with the mental health community,” he said.
Elko will be the fourth office for Nevada Behavioral Solutions. The office is not affiliated with the Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital.
“Mental health care in general in Nevada needs to do some catching up,” Zedek said. “I’m more focused on where I can make a difference. I find a sense of relevance, mission, purpose and calling in the work that I do.”
