ELKO — GameStop moved to 2525 Mountain City Highway, Suite 109, at Elko Junction, in August. Store supervisor Ashley Taylor says the new store is bigger and allows staff to stock more inventory, including new and pre-owned video games for Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo. The video game retailer has about 6,100 stores in the United States and around the world. Call 753-9999 or visit www.gamestop.com.
Also at Elko Junction, near the corner of Interstate 80 and Mountain City Highway, Dress Barn closed July 7, and rue21 closed Aug. 22. David Fonua, property manager for Meridian Pacific Ltd., said staff is recruiting to fill the two vacant spaces and have some “good prospective candidates.” Potential offerings could be restaurants, retailers or other “hard goods” shops such as tire companies. “I think if these leads go through with some of these candidates, it will be exciting for Elko and will be fun for the shopping center,” Fonua said, explaining that if the spaces are filled, the company might expand and modernize the splash pad. In remembrance of her late husband, Realtor Kristie Brady purchased Good Time Charlee’s Bar at 542 River St. The venue was Shaun Brady’s favorite, and before he died in January, the couple had discussed buying the bar. When the establishment came up for sale this summer, Kristie Brady, a Realtor with Elko Realty, said it was meant to be. “He would be happy knowing that I bought the bar in memory of him,” she said. “It would have pleased him.” She plans to keep everything the same and offer a blue beverage in a pitcher called a “millennium.” The business deal is expected to finalize Sept. 1.
