ELKO – Nevada casino revenue declined for a second straight month in November but Elko County casinos saw double-digit gains.

The gaming win was down 2.3 percent statewide but jumped 15 percent in West Wendover and 5.77 percent in the rest of Elko County.

The boost came in the first month that a massive new liquor store was open in West Wendover. Lee’s Liquor opened a 30,000 square foot store that stocks more than 6,000 products on Oct. 25.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Nov. 8 that many Utah customers made the 123-mile drive to the border town to avoid Utah’s high liquor taxes – despite the fact that it is illegal to transport alcoholic beverages from another state.

Wendover casinos took in $23.3 million from gamblers in November, while other Elko County casinos saw revenue of $15.8 million.

Casinos on the Las Vegas Strip saw their revenue drop for the second consecutive month, taking in about $485.8 million from gamblers.

The report from the Nevada Gaming Control Board shows casinos statewide won about $909.1 million last month.

That’s a 2.3 percent decrease compared to the same month last year.
