September 19, 1940—December 28, 2017
Bruce M. Dohms, 77 passed away in Sparks, Nevada December 28, 2017.
He was born on September 19,1940 in Wheaton, Wisconsin to Shirley Sr. and Iris (Thalacker) Dohms. After school Bruce joined the service wherein he served on the USS Thuban, USS Muliphen, and USS Lake Champlain.
In 1963 he met his wife Verona (Gilbert) Dohms at the Skokie Produce Canning Factory. Later in 1965 Verona moved to California, where Bruce followed shortly after. They were married in Reno Nevada, December 12, 1965. Together they had three daughters, Debbie, Dawn, and Doreen. He also had a daughter from a previous marriage, Sandra Sue.
In 1970 the Dohms family moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan where Bruce joined the police department and worked for 10 years. In 1980 they moved as a family once again to Eagle Lake, CA, and later that year to Battle Mountain, where he was offered a job at Mountain Springs. In 1981 they moved again to Petaluma, California for a short period of time before moving back to Battle Mountain, where they would reside the rest of his years. He worked for Battle Mountain Gold and was a part of the Lions Club. Later he worked for Newmont where he would retire from in 2005.
One could always find Bruce tinkering with cars or other little things around the house being Mr. Fix-it. He also enjoyed to read and spend time with family, and always looked forward to visits from family, friends and past co-workers. Bruce was a very strong willed man, a jokester that could get a laugh out of just about anyone and someone to be admired. The Battle Mountain Methodist church was a big part of him, and you would find him at the Saturday Breakfast every week followed by Sunday Service. He enjoyed Nascar, football and fishing. He will truly be missed.
Bruce is survived by his wife Verona Dohms; children, Debbie (John) Mauldin; Dawn (Buck) Giles; and Doreen (Danny) Richardson, and Sandra Sue Dohms; and granddaughter Nikita (Travis) Williams who was raised by Bruce and Verona. He is further survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents Shirley Sr, and Iris Dohms; stepmothers Ethel and Evelyn; mother and father in-law William and Vernetta Gilbert; brothers, Shirley (Hank) Jr., PeeWee, Donald, Herman, and Neil Dohms; and sister Eva.
