Gertrude Aileen Larsen age 75, passed away surrounded by family on October 1, 2017. She was born on March 9, 1942 to Soren Gottfred and Etta Marie Larsen in Spring City, Utah, the oldest of five children. She was raised in Spring City and attended her elementary school there, graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1960. Aileen graduated from Snow College with an Associate’s Degree and Utah State University receiving a Bachelors of Arts in 1964. Aileen’s 40 plus years in a career of teaching began at East High School SLC, UT, and then she moved onto St. Anthony, Idaho where she found her joy of teaching in Bancroft Idaho in 1967 where she taught for 32 years. In 1996 Aileen returned to school to acquire her Master’s Degree from ISU. Aileen retired from Idaho but as the great teacher she was could not truly retire so she found a librarian job at Jackpot Nevada’s Combine School for another 12 years. Aileen finally retired for good when her sister retired as well in 2009. In 2010 Aileen returned to her Bancroft home and in 2014 she moved to Elko, Nevada.
Aileen’s many talents include, but are not limited to, her art work, sewing skills, baking, gardening, and maintaining a well-groomed yard. Aileen loved to host parties, being with friends and family, traveling and be in tune with nature, there were many back roads of Idaho, Utah and Nevada that she traveled.
Having a strong testimony of the LDS Church she accepted many different callings. Aileen was endowed in the Jordan River Temple. Teaching was a great joy to her but her greatest joy was being with her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephews.
Aileen is survived by her sister Kathleen Johnson, Carlin, NV; brother Milton (Vicki) Larsen, Moroni, UT; Camille Larsen, Hurricane, UT; sister-in-law Carolyn Hafen; nieces: Karla (David) Jones; Michelle Larsen; Melissa (Blake) Anderson; Kim (Mike) Godfrey and Rhoana Johnson; nephews: Clint (Tara) Johnson; Skyler (Felicia) Larsen; and Lewis Larsen; as well as, numerous cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Briant Larsen, brother-in-law Max Johnson, and nephews Keith and Ryan Larsen.
A viewing will be held on Saturday October 7, 2017 at 9:30 am with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am at the Spring City LDS Church the church is located at 164 S. Main St. Burial will take place at the Spring City Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the LDS Church.
