Irene passed away on December 5, 2017 in Topeka, KS at the age of 98. She is survived by her daughters Victoria Hood Console of Topeka, KS and Jacqueline Hood Hopper of Riverside, CA as well as eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Thomas Hunter Hood and her husband Thomas Knight Hood. Irene was born in Leslie, MO on February 5, 1919. She received her RN degree at Washington University in St. Louis, MO and married Tom in 1944. Irene moved to Elko in 1951 and was an active member of the community until moving to Topeka, KS in 2011 to be near her daughter. Irene was a longtime supporting member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She was a devoted member of PEO and worked to support the Nevada Historical Museum. She especially enjoyed playing bridge and needlework. She loved spending time with her family and keeping up with all the activities of her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held this summer in Elko. Donations can be made in her name for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or Northeastern Nevada Museum in Elko.
