August 18, 1922 - May 17, 2013

“Kay” Monique Dean Knast passed away peacefully at the Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital in Elko, Nevada, with her husband Leonard “Lenny” Knast and niece Vina Ann Dean Spickler by her side. Kay, a longtime resident of Elko, Nevada, was revered and respected as a pioneering businesswoman, with her strong presence and positive personality, and known for “telling it like it is”. She touched and blessed many lives with her confident demeanor.

Kay and her husband, Lenny, of 33 years, would like to take a moment to recognize and commend Dr. M. Durkin, the nurses and staff at Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital along with Hospice Director Billie Jean Crawford and the Hospice Staff for their compassion and dedication in the care of Kay during her final days along with preparing her and family for her journey home. Kay was preceded in death by her Mother Vina Mae Schippert Dean, her Father Anthony Joseph Dean, her Brothers: Minor Allen Dean and wife Charlene; Anthony Joseph Dean, Jr., John Dean; and one (1) nephew: Rex Allen Dean.

She is survived by her husband Lenny; two (2) daughters: Donna Knast Stonish (David), Rose Knast Lynch (Mike), and three (3) grandchildren all of New York. She adored the delight and joys of her life, Squeeker and Oscar, as she would frequently say “I love my puppies.” Two (2) nieces: Vina Ann Dean Spickler and M. Florene “Flo” Dean Taylor (Robbie); two (2) nephews: John J. Dean (Bennie); and Francis E. Dean all of Stillwater, Oklahoma; seven (7) great-nieces and nephews; and ten (10) great-great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Kay's Life will be held at Burns Funeral Home, Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a gathering at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Materdai Hall immediately following the service.

    To the Family of Kay Goodnight/Knast our sincerest condolences. We once lived next door to Kay and Lenny and they were such nice neighbors. I am sorry to hear she has departed this world and entered into the next. She was a hard worker and a very kind person. and truly loved her puppies and Lenny.

    Lenny, I am sorry for Kay's departure. I still share with people when I worked with Kay @ CAsa De Calores while in high school. She left me with abilities and values that remain in my bag of stuff. If you need anything I am easy to find. theronjhunt@gmail.com
