October 21, 1927—December 4, 2017
Keith Melvin Crain of Arkansas City, KS passed away Dec. 4, 2017.
Keith was born Oct. 21, 1927 in Arapaho, Oklahoma Township, to Hebron and Orpha Crain. Reared in Blackwell, OK, Keith served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Soon after marrying his sweetheart, JoAnne Marie Brown of Ponca City, Okla. in 1950, he answered the call of duty for the Korean War. In 1954, Keith and JoAnne established Crain Tile Company in Arkansas City, where he worked until his 2000 retirement.
Keith enjoyed traveling (frequently to Elko), fishing and camping with family and friends. An avid reader, he was also a riveting storyteller. A husband, dad and grandpa who greatly loved and was loved greatly, he was more than a fishing buddy, a friend, a mentor. He was a quintessential patriot, saying at age 89 that he would gladly serve his country all over again. We will miss his wry sense of humor, entertaining stories, jokes and wise counsel for the rest of our lives.
Keith was predeceased by his wife; his parents; daughter, Sally; brother, Ray; sister, Naomi; and granddaughter, Lisa.
He is survived by his daughters, Cathy (Kent) McAdoo, Elko, NV; and Debbie (Gary) Adams Mannford, OK; brother, Glen (Lillie) Crain, Kerrville, TX; sisters, Norma Sue (Don) Horinek, Wabasha, MN, and Nadine Bruner, of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Becky (Stacy) Hay, Mannford, OK, Jamie (James) Dickerson, Las Cruces, NM, and Caleb (Rachel) McAdoo, Spring Creek, NV; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Dec. 15, 1:30 p.m. at The Carolyn Renfro Center, Ponca City, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in his name to the GBC Veterans Resource Center, 1500 College Parkway, Elko, NV 89801.
