May 29, 1940-January 25, 2018
Launa Jensen, of Carlin, Nevada, received her wings the morning of January 25th at the age of 77 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Launa passed peacefully in her home with her husband and daughters by her side.
Launa was born in a small cabin in Bridge, Idaho to Benjamin and Luceal Schmidt. She graduated from high school in Malta, Idaho and soon met and married Robert Jensen in April 1960. Together, Robert and Launa have three children: Thomas (Deanna) Jensen, Terri (Tim) Sirotek, and Tina Garner. They enjoyed living around the world during Robert’s twenty-year service in the United States Navy. The Jensen family finally settled in Carlin, Nevada in 1975 after asking the kids where they would like to live. This suited Launa just fine since she could once again live close to her parents and siblings. Launa held many jobs, but her most memorable was owning and operating the Mexican Joint in Carlin.
Launa enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 32 W.W. Manning. Some of her favorite activities and pastimes included dancing, snowmobiling, dressing up for Halloween, cooking, darts, bowling, BINGO, and watching her great-grandchildren’s activities. She especially loved camping and sitting by the camp fire.
Launa is preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Luceal Schmidt, her older sister Carol Reed, and her infant sister Charlene.
Launa is survived by her husband Robert, three children, eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sister Judy (Bill) Micheli, brother Johnny (Linda) Schmidt, and many nieces and nephews, most of which still reside in the Elko area.
Special thanks to Launa’s caregivers, nurses, and hospice volunteers. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Horizon Hospice or the American Legion Scholarship Fund, Post 32 of Carlin. A Celebration of Life will be announced.
