The Mine Safety and Health Administration published a final rule Oct. 5 in the Federal Register to stay the effective date of the Examinations of Working Places in Metal and Nonmetal Mines final rule from Oct. 2 to June 2, 2018. The final rule also temporarily reinstates the working place examinations standards that were in effect as of Oct. 1.

The final rule that was made available on the Office of the Federal Register Public Inspection Desk on Oct. 2, was withdrawn due to MSHA’s untimely submission to the Federal Register.

This final rule that is available for public viewing reflects MSHA’s intent to assure that mine operators and miners are provided necessary compliance assistance and training on the requirements of the exam rule and to continue protection of metal and nonmetal miners through workplace examinations.
