CARLIN — Taylor Black was out of surgery and recovering in a Salt Lake City hospital Monday night, said Elko County Sheriff Lt. Kevin McKinney.
Black is expected to recover from the gunshot wounds to his neck and hand, McKinney said.
Black was sedated Monday night, but McKinney said Salt Lake City detectives would interview him at the hospital Tuesday to try to determine what happened at his home on Railroad Street in Carlin Monday morning.
CARLIN — The injured victim in the shooting in Carlin this morning went into surgery at University of Utah Hospital around 1 p.m. Monday for gunshot injuries to his neck and hand, according to Elko County Sheriff Lt. Kevin McKinney.
Authorities originally believed 19-year-old victim Taylor Black had injuries to his arm and back, but clarified once he arrived and was evaluated at the hospital.
Law enforcement detectives continue to investigate the scene at 920 Railroad St. and are still unsure about how many shots were fired in the home. They do now know that Teresa Black was shot in the downstairs portion of the house first before Taylor Black was shot upstairs, McKinney said.
An autopsy of Teresa Black's body is scheduled for Tuesday, with preliminary results by the end of the week, McKinney said.
CARLIN — Carlin Police have arrested Brant Davis, 22, of Carlin on charges of open murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
Davis is suspected of the murder of his mother, Teresa Black, 52, early Monday morning at 920 Railroad St. in Carlin. He is also charged with injuring his half brother, Taylor Black, 19.
Davis used a shotgun. He has been booked in the Elko County Jail.
CARLIN — A woman is dead and a man injured following an incident this morning at a Carlin residence.
The 8:51 a.m. shooting at a residence on Railroad Street is being investigated by Carlin police.
Police Chief Bill Bauer was first on scene after responding to a call about shots fired. A man found in front of the house was taken into custody as a person of interest.
Law enforcement officials say a cursory search of the house revealed the dead woman and injured man inside. Neither victim has been identified.
The Elko and Carlin police departments, Sheriff's Department and other agencies are involved. Officials are currently applying for a search warrant. There is no risk to public safety.
