County building permits drop in May

ELKO — The number of building permits issued in Elko County in May dropped about 17 percent compared to the same month last year.

Ninety-eight permits were issued in May, compared with 118 in May 2010. The total valuation of projects was about $1.58 million last month, down from $2.16 million in May 2010.

Thirty-seven permits were issued for new residential structures last month, down from 49 in May 2010. The number of residential accessory permits also dropped last month.

Permits numbers in most other categories remained steady in May compared to the same month last year.

However, four permits for new commercial buildings were issued last month, compared with none in May 2010. One of the projects is a new coffee shop on Spring Creek Parkway.

Following is a list of May county permit applications, including the project’s owner, location, description and value.

• Commercial- new: Bailey & Sons Investment Co. LLC, 274 Spring Creek Parkway, new coffee shop and patio trellis, $69,680.

• Commercial- remodel/repair: Spring Creek Association, 670 Bronco Drive, enclosures for risers, $12,100.
