ELKO – A possible domestic dispute led to the arrest of two people for child abuse or neglect early Sunday morning.
According to Elko Police Lt. Ty Trouten, officers arrived at the Monte Carlo Apartments after being called on a domestic dispute. The male had already left by the time police came to the scene.
“When they got to the apartment there was a visible amount of marijuana smoke and a strong odor,” said Trouten.
The officers found four children in the home 9 and under. Three children belonged to the couple and one was a friend who was spending the night.
The officers found the man down the street a few minutes later. Both adults had smoked a quantity of marijuana and ingested alcohol, according to Trouten, and they were in no condition to be looking after four children.
Officers arrested Manuel S. Briseno, and Jessie A. Myers, 32, on four counts each of child abuse or neglect.
Trouten said Child and Family Services was able to place the three children with a relative for the night and the parents of the visiting child were reached and took the child home.
Bail for Briseno and Myers was listed at $400,000 each.
