ELKO – Elko police arrested Mario H. Benavides of Elko on a charge of domestic battery this weekend.
Officers responded to a call from a female victim at the residence of 1040 A St. The victim reported a complaint of neck and back pain from a fall. After further investigation by officers, the victim’s injuries were determined as a result of battery and domestic violence from Benavides. These injuries also include attempts at strangulation, according Lt. Mike Palhegyi of the Elko Police Department.
Benavides, 35, also allegedly attempted to prohibit the female victim from contacting police and emergency personnel by taking away her cellphone, according to Lt. Palhegyi.
Benavides was arrested on a second offense of domestic battery, and has bail set at $5,140.
