ELKO – A Spring Creek woman who was offered a ride in Elko ended up in jail on Christmas Eve.
Police received a report shortly after noon that a female had locked herself in a male’s car and was refusing to get out, according to Elko Police Lt. Mike Palhegyi.
“He was going to give her a ride but apparently he noticed she was in possession of some illegal drugs, so he wasn’t comfortable with that,” Palhegyi said. The driver pulled into the parking lot at 5J Music and asked her to get out of the car.
Instead, she allegedly grabbed the keys and locked the driver outside.
Laurel J. Button, 36, was still in the passenger’s seat when police arrived. The driver told officers she had place drug paraphernalia under the seat of his car.
Police found baggies but no drugs in the car.
Button scuffled with officers when they arrested her, Palhegyi said, and more drug paraphernalia was found on her during the arrest.
Button was booked on charges of attempted grand larceny of an automobile, three counts of possession of a hypodermic device, two counts of use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting a public officer. Her bail was set at $10,840.
