ELKO – A dispute between two families resulted in an arrest after an Elko man allegedly fired five shots from his rifle.
The dispute occurred in the early morning hours Monday near Castle Rock Road. Elko Police Department arrested one male suspect for consuming alcohol under the age of 21, but witnesses at the scene are claiming the suspect also fired several rounds from a rifle during the argument.
Police Sgt. Jason Pepper said the suspect was only arrested for underage drinking but he could be facing more charges.
“There was alcohol involved. One of the family members pulled out a rifle and fired four or five shots into the air,” he said. “They seized the rifle and the ammunition and they submitted for charges on the person who fired the rifle for discharging a firearm within City limits.”
There were no injuries or property damage reported.
