ELKO — An Elko man was transported to the University of Utah Hospital after he sustained a serious neck injury during a two-car collision Saturday at Mountain City Highway and Idaho Street.
Elko police Lt. Richard Genseal said a Jeep driven by Lance Reinertson was northbound from Silver Street to Mountain City Highway when the front of his vehicle was struck by a truck driven by Julian Nelson Stevens, 28, of Elko. Genseal said the truck was southbound on Mountain City Highway and was trying to turn left onto Idaho Street in the path of the Jeep.
Stevens’ passengers, Keith Barredo and Warren Whiterock, were treated for injuries at the scene and were released. However, driver Stevens was nowhere to be found. Ages for Reinertson, Barredo and Whiterock were not available Monday.
Stevens was later found by a city officer after witness accounts identified him as the driver. Stevens was arrested Sunday night after he turned himself in to officers at the police station. He was charged with hit and run causing injury, failure to give aid and failure to report an accident. His bail is $3,694.
