ELKO – The identity of the two pedestrians who were struck by an automobile Thursday evening have been released by Elko police.
According to Police Lt. Ty Trouten, Wayne Smith, 68, of Ten Sleep, Wyoming was turning east onto Commercial Street from the downtown corridor when his vehicle struck Louis Zirelli, 75, and Jean Nieddenriep, 72, of Elko who were walking across Commercial Street toward the parking corridor.
The incident occurred at around 7:45 p.m. near the G Bar. An unknown caller alerted police and they were on the scene within approximately two minutes, said Trouten.
Both pedestrians were hurt and transported to Northeastern Nevada Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.
The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and reckless driving. His bail was set at $1,495.
