ELKO— It’s business as usual for local law enforcement.

The federal government shutdown does not affect much in the police department or the sheriff’s office. Both organizations will continue to do what they have always done.

Elko Police Lt. Richard Genseal said he has seen no impact in local law enforcement. There could be complications in the long term, but since there is no telling how long the shutdown will last, Genseal doesn’t know what those issues would be.

Undersheriff Clair Morris said the same thing. “In the long term, we’ll have issues, but for the short term, we’re fine,” he said.

Genseal and Morris didn’t see any issues with receiving federal grants. In the long term, grants might be affected, but for now there is no concern.
