ELKO — A police officer who saw a man in a downtown bar with a gun in his waistband arrested him for possessing two guns while intoxicated and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit on Friday night, Elko Police Capt. Will Lehmann.

He may also be charged with nine counts of carrying a dangerous weapon for the nine daggers and switchblades he was carrying when officers approached him, Lehmann said.

Officers arrested 42-year-old Carlin resident Newton L. Robinson, at the Silver Dollar Club when they found he was intoxicated and holding the weapons, Lehmann said.

Police impounded the guns and knives.

Robinson’s bail was listed at $19,274 at the Elko County Jail.

That is a very good analysis. I used to reject the, "they are all the same" label for Rep's and Dem's I think there are some things where they diverge but as you say, when it comes to the things that count it's really hard to see any substantial difference any more. With the exception of Obamacare, the Reps have sold out on every issue I can think of. Long live the 10th.

By dividing I mean that those in government want half the population on one side or the other. That way they can play us against ourselves. We will be too busy bitching and fighting over abortion, gay rights, illegals, to see the big picture. That both parties are the same. They both believe in more centralized government, and less freedom and liberty for all. Most of the things I stated aren't the Feds right to regulate anyway. The 10th. Amend, allows states to regulate them.

I'm not saying I'm for abortion or against it. Personally I'm not for it, but I'm not the one who has to live wondering what or who that child would have been, that is for the mother to bear. I see it as a choice right or wrong it's not for me to decide what's best for anyone. Simple as that. People from different beliefs will always argue about what constitutes life. It's an argument that will never be won, that is why it is used to further divide people.

It's not really about saving lives in regard to gun control. It's about controlling people. Perhaps the anti gunners out there should just call it what it is... People control.

There is an additional "their" (a baby) when it comes to "their body" and the freedom to do as "they" wish that makes the two not comparable. Even Libertarians agree that freedom stops at another persons nose. In the most Libertarian State imaginable the State has an obligation and right to prevent one from harming another. The debate about what constitutes human, what's viable and what's life will go on but protecting sanctity of human life seems a perfectly legitimate interest of the State.

True but the difference is that many people believe that life begins at conception or at least when the unborn child begins to take on the appearance of a little person. Or at very least when a child is aborted alive and has its little spine snapped as that POS Dr. Gosnel was doing in PA. On the other hand, no gun ever killed anyone without a human being operating it. If you want to ban something, ban criminals who use firearms unlawfully. Leave the law abiding gun owners alone.

The problem with the whole thing, be it gun control or abortion is the fact that with either, it all boils down to a group of people using government to force their moral beliefs on others. To me that is much more disgusting than gun control or abortion. A person should be free to do what they want with their body and free to protect themselves by any means they deem appropriate.

OTOH to answer the more figurative implications of your question, "why exactly do you insist on invading a woman's uterus to demonstrate your concern for human life", I'll paraphrase John Dillinger, " 'cuz that's where the babies are".

I don't want to invade a woman's uterus. I was merely making a point to illustrate the hypocrisy of the extreme left. You know; the people who are pro late term abortion yet anti death penalty, pro 1st amendment but anti 2nd. They want us to drive electric cars but oppose power plants. Yada yada yada. You know, your peeps Lweyle. Let me ask you a question. Why do you insist on invading my gun safe?

For all my strident put-downs and sparing on these pages I actually need to thank you for that thought. It never really occurred to me till now that for all the invading uterus rhetoric the only one actually doing any invading, literally or figuratively, are the abortionists. The issues of abortion and women are beyond complex but on the narrow issue of who is doing violence there is no debate possible.

Even the Vice President was caught making the remark that the gun laws you and your ilk are so salivating over will have "no real impact on gun violence". You have to admit Lweyle, if abortions are stopped, some form of violence will in fact be stopped. In addition, the fact that conservatives tend to do more for the causes that you mention is indesputable.

If you want to save a few million lives, the state does not have to reach inside women's uteruses to save the unborn. Go to Bangladesh and save some of the lives in being. Rescue an Elko homeless person. Since you are indifferent to the plights of these lives in being, why exactly do you insist on invading a woman's uterus to demonstrate your concern for human life?

Make no mistake about it; I am a vehement supporter of the right to bear arms. The problem I have with this gentlemen is that he elected to carry weapons, including firearms, while he was intoxicated and apparently in one of Elko's many saloons. He also apparently did not possess a concealed carry permit. That is not responsible gun handling my friend. That is criminal behavior under current Nevada law. A true sheepdog would lawfully protect others from evil doers. It's that simple.

"If it saves the lives of a couple dozen innocent people a year, I think it's worth it."

If there was ever a defining phrase of Progressivism, the rejection of cost/benefit with, "if it saves even one ..." is it. Every last detail down to those so small they save "even one" can be quantified and a law created to manage it. Never mind the impossible level of control necessary to arrive at such nirvana reduces us all to caged slaves in the process. Well, except for our Progressive slavemasters.

I think that gun registration, background checks and restrictions on clip capacities will restrict some if the criminal activity committed with firearms and place an insignificant burden on gun owners. They have to do a background check if they transfer a gun? They are limited to 10 shots before they must reload. The restriction on gun owners seems relatively small and the potential benefit while hard to quantify seems considerably more substantial. If it saves the lives of a couple dozen innocent people a year, I think it's worth it. Now you may come to a different conclusion, but I appreciate that you have thought it through and are not simply regurgitating Fox News. Now Stalin was a sick man. The line for which he is famous is: "If one person is killed, it is a tragedy, if thousands are killed it is a statistic."

Lweyle, is this the last law you will push for? Criminal law is intended to prevent things we all agree are undesirable. Gun control is intended to limit something we all have agreed is not only a right but a Constitutionally guaranteed one. What Lweyle proposes is not intended to reduce crime - that's already happening - it's intended to disarm the innocent and leave them at the mercy of the guilty so she and her Statist cohorts can consolidate their rule over us.

Can you explain how these new laws will stop any criminal from getting their hands on guns and why the laws currently in place are not enough or even enforced? Why do we need more laws about making our communities safer when gun crime stands at 50% of what it was in 1993 and crime in general is headed down?

If you read this newspaper, you will see stories about people drilling gas tanks, spray painting cars, using and selling illegal drugs, carrying and using weapons unlawfully, speeding, driving under the influence, assaulting and killing, having sex with minors, etc. There are laws against all of these things. The commission if these crimes does not mean the laws do not work, it means they do not work 100% of the time. But they reduce the amount if inappropriate behavior. requiring background checks, registering firearms and limiting clip capacities will not work 100% of the time - but like the other laws, it will help and our community will be better with them than without.
