A lot has been written about the affordability of over-the-air broadcast and whether or not the TV district should be abolished. I would like to add one more reason to keep the district intact.
I can afford both the tax for the TV district and satellite television and appreciate having both. The only way to get local TV for Reno or Nevada stations is to have a roof-top antenna. My satellite TV provider forces us to have Salt Lake City, Utah, channels as our “local stations.” These stations are useless to me as I don’t care what is happening in Utah, I don’t shop there, and the weather reports are useless. Also, network programming is in a different time zone than Elko, which makes it difficult to schedule network broadcasts.
To be able to see Reno and Elko TV broadcasts in Spring Creek or other outlying areas we must have an antenna. Please vote to keep the district intact and providing us with real local television programming. Vote for a candidate who will see to it that we can continue to get Nevada TV stations.
