ELKO — A 57-year-old doctor in the behavioral health unit at Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital died in his sleep last week, according to a hospital staff member and a prepared statement.
Dr. Michael L. James just joined the hospital’s staff in April, according to a release from NNRH.
The hospital did not release the cause of James’ death, citing confidential personnel reasons.
“We were saddened to learn about the death of Dr. Michael James, who was an active member of our hospital’s staff,” said Kerry Aguirre, the director of business development for NNRH, via email. “Our deepest sympathies go to his wife, Nancy, and his family.”
James, who was board-certified in psychiatry and neurology, moved to Elko from Salt Lake City where he had practiced privately since 1986.
The hospital has shifted temporary specialists to the behavioral health unit to cover appointments for patients in need, Aguirre said.
James graduated from University of Nebraska Omaha and practiced previously at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.
NNRH did not have details on a memorial service available before press time.
