ELKO — Northeastern Nevada is in for a heat wave.

Potential record-breaking temperatures are in the forecast for Thursday through

Monday, according to a heat watch issued by the National Weather Service.

“Many valley locations will see afternoon temperatures near 100 degrees, with

the warmest valleys reaching 103 to 108 degrees,” the advisory stated.

Morning lows will also be unusually warm, in the upper 50 and 60s.

The weather service offered the following advice:

• Drink plenty of water

• Do not exert yourself during the hottest afternoon temperatures

• Do not leave pets, children or the elderly in vehicles

Highs in Elko are expected to be in the hundreds from Friday through Monday, with the hottest reaching 102 on Saturday.
