U.S. Sen. Dean Heller
It’s morning again in America. During his first year in office, President Trump sharply changed direction away from the failed policies of the past that are accountable for years of anemic economic growth and too many Nevadans living paycheck to paycheck. Thanks to the President’s leadership this past year, the economy grew at the fastest pace in two years, more than two million jobs were created, and the unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been since 2001. We strengthened our economy by cutting Washington red tape that has been holding back our job creators, and the President signed into law the first major overhaul of our tax code in decades. Tax relief has already had a positive impact on thousands of Nevadans. For example, South Point Hotel Casino & Spa doubled bonuses for 2,300 workers, and the once-stalled Fontainebleau resort in Las Vegas committed to resuming construction on the project, which is expected to create approximately 10,000 new jobs in southern Nevada.

There is nothing Presidential about a speech and an Administration that embody, at their core, a profound attack on the truth, our health, our families, and our planet. The reason Trump has the lowest approval ratings of any President in history is because his deceit in the service of a hateful, dangerous agenda that only serves the corporate elite, entitled polluters and billionaires knows no bounds. Trump’s false claims tonight about his destructive energy policies are emblematic of his presidency, in that the weight of reality and the will of the people are not on his side. Trump again tried to claim that coal is not in decline, and spin his attempts to drill, mine, and frack our public lands and waters. The truth is that a coal plant retirement has been announced every 16 days since he was elected, and the American people overwhelmingly oppose his repeated attacks on our public lands.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue
President Trump’s unifying address to the nation recounted this administration’s impressive achievements in its first year, which have strengthened the economy for all Americans, including those who do the important work in the agriculture sector. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is already helping workers and will allow agricultural producers to invest more in their operations and their own families. President Trump’s optimistic vision for the nation includes massive investment in infrastructure, which will be a boon to a rural America that sorely needs such improvements. The president’s emphasis on fair trade gives me confidence that he will strike deals that benefit all parts of the American economy. Additionally, his focus on eliminating burdensome regulations is freeing up agricultural producers and removing obstacles to productivity. This is a president who has rural America and agriculture close to his heart, as his words and deeds clearly demonstrate.
