I am the father of three wonderful children. As you may well know they require entertainment. For a lot of years now I have been trying to take my kids to the Elko public pool and it’s nearly impossible.

This last time I took my kids I told the kids let’s see If by some miracle of public pools god, you guys can be allowed to swim. But no luck. I was told that it was booked by all the Elko Olympic swimmers, the synchronized swimming team and so on and so on.

I asked, upset, hey for a public pool this pool is not very public, when can I bring my kids here and I was given a schedule that showed that Friday 1 1/2 hours from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 2 hours from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. was the only times available. That is not fair to the children of Elko.

I think that a public pool should be anytime of the week. Not when there is 1 hour to spare in a week period because someone is busy raking in the money. I believe that many Elko residents feel this way, that we need a public pool to take our kids to. We have been paying the High Desert Inn for a lot of years to swim there. Which is the only pool that allows the public for a small fee of $5 to swim there.
