Senator Heller must reject Kathleen Hartnett White, White House nominee for the Center For Environmental Quality who lied about the risk of increased radiation levels in public drinking water
This January, the Senate will vote to decide whether Kathleen Hartnett White should be confirmed as President Trump’s top environmental advisor and Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
As Commissioner of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality from 2001 to 2007, White failed to report increased levels of radiation in drinking water because she didn’t agree with federal standards designed keep children and families safe from dangerous, cancer-causing radiation.
It gets worse. Years later, when the truth came out, Kathleen Hartnett White defended her actions, saying that she didn’t agree with the federal standards, so the decision to falsify the data made “incredibly good sense.” When the issue came up again in her confirmation hearing last month, she lied to the Senate about it.
Kathleen Hartnett White also served as “Distinguished Senior Fellow In Residence & Director, Armstrong Center For Energy & The Environment” for the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a conservative anti-renewable energy, pro fossil fuel “think tank," where she wrote a blog about how the use of coal ended slavery.
Nevada families count on sane officials to ensure society has things like safe water to drink, bathe in, and wash their food. Kathleen Hartnett White cannot be trusted with that basic responsibility. Senator Heller must take a stand for the people of Nevada and vote to reject her nomination.
