Dear Elko Daily Free Press writers,
We would like to thank you so much for putting our sixth annual "Kickin' Cancer Away 5K" event information in the Community Happenings and in the Sports section of your newspaper.
Your newspaper advertising for our ”Kickin’ Cancer Away 5K” team fundraiser for the American Cancer Society/Elko Relay for Life and the Elko Cancer Network held June 3, 2017, helped us to gain more entrants. We would also like to thank you for your continued support of putting in our submitted article and pictures after our event.
Our 6th annual ”Kickin’ Cancer Away 5K” was a success and helped us raise over $1,000 which will be donated to the American Cancer Society/Elko Relay for Life and the Elko Cancer Network. We had approximately 64 adults, including several Cancer Survivors, 23 children, parents/grandparents pushing children in nine strollers and 10 dogs.
Most participants, including the dogs, finished the 5K (3.1 mile) course. We had some participants that were recovering from orthopedic surgeries, or other injuries, but managed to finish. Many were first time ever 5K participants, with some having participated for the sixth time.
Cancer survivor Rudy Jimenez drove one of the support vehicles and helped with radio communication along the course. Barbara Jimenez, also a cancer survivor, helped out with some of the behind the scenes preparation, registration and donations.
Everyone involved, from our team, to the participants and supporters had a great time and we are all looking forward to putting on our seventh annual ”Kickin' Cancer Away 5K" next summer, where we hope to add a very short run/walk for very young children.
We all wish you and yours the best of health and happiness.
