We would like to express our great appreciation to the BLM Fire Crew, Elko County Fire Department, the Forest Service, the Sheriff's department and all others that responded to the lightning fire on September 7 on "E" Mountain.
It took a little while for them to find a road to get to the fire but they all did their best. We had three fire trucks in our yard and a large crew of men standing by to make sure none of our buildings caught fire.
The fire came within feet of our shop and burned all around our house before being stopped. The helicopter made many trips dropping water and finally the air transport made it here to drop fire retardant.
We really feel bad that many of the trees were not able to be saved as there are so few trees in this part of the country. The fire crews were here for four days cutting tree branches and putting out smoldering fires still in the trees.
Again, thank you so much for all you did to save our property. You are a fine crew of men and are so greatly appreciated. We also want to thank many of our friends who stopped by or called offering help.
Sharel and Carol Fertig
