SOUTH TAHOE – Starting a golf tournament at 2 p.m. does not leave any leeway for problems from Mother Nature.

Monday’s Division 3A North girls golf tournament only made it about halfway through before being canceled due to rain and lightning.

Elko coach Jeff Sarbacker said the Lady Indians had only played through “about nine holes each” by 6 p.m.

With the tournaments typically taking about six hours to complete on a nice day, the tournament would not have been over until approximately 8 p.m. with no hiccups.

Former Elko coach Marc Suyematsu said two groups finished in the dark last season.

Since Monday’s event did not have enough players finish with a common number of holes, the results of the tournament before the cancellation will not count.

“As of now, the idea is to make up the tournament the day before the Lowry tournament on Lowry’s course,” Sarbacker said.

The tentative schedule is to play the South Tahoe tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Winnemucca, following with Lowry’s home tournament on Thursday, Oct. 5.
