FERNLEY – The Division 3A North league duals ended in the same fashion as every dual event for the Spring Creek wrestling team.

The Spartans rolled to an 8-0 record Friday and Saturday in Fernley, finishing the season 19-0 in duals competitions.

Spring Creek blanked Truckee by a score of 84-0, following with a 69-6 victory over Sparks – the numbers eerily similar to a 69-9 bashing of Elko.

The Spartans’ closest test of the weekend came in a 44-15 score against Lowry, Spring Creek on the high side.

Spring Creek beat Fernley 73-4 and whacked South Tahoe 75-6, matching its biggest blowout of the event with an 84-0 shelling of Dayton.

In a matchup of the top-two teams from the 3A state tournament last season, the defending state champs thumped Fallon by a score of 63-12.

Individually, several Spring Creek wrestlers posted perfect marks on the weekend.

In eight matches, 120-pound junior Josh Tripp never lost – earning seven victories by pinfall.

Senior Anthony Chavez also won eight matches in eight tries, pinning six opponents.

Defending 138-pound state champion Dyllan Fuchs rolled to an 8-0 mark with three wins by pins, senior K-Ci Slade posting the same stat line at 182 pounds.

Freshman Chase Milligan tallied two pins and finished with an 8-0 record in the 106-pound division, and sophomore Jeff Guthrie went 8-0 in the 192-pound class with one pin.

In the 152-pound division, freshman Beau Chacon only had to wrestle four matches, finishing with a victory in each and notching two wins by pinfall.

Following seven unbeaten wrestlers, six Spring Creek grapplers closed the weekend with just one loss apiece.

Freshman Kodis Campbell won five matches by pinfall, tallying seven victories against just one defeat.

In the 132-pound class, freshman Q Boyd also strung together seven wins and only one defeat – pinning five opponents.

Junior Clay Campbell wrestled his way to a 7-1 record, finishing with four pins at 160 pounds.

Another junior, Chandler Hill, pinned four opponents and closed with a 7-1 mark in the 220-pound division.

Keeping up with the trend of a majority of the junior class, Cody Jenkins went 7-1 in the heavyweight class – pinning two of his 285-pound counterparts.

Junior Caden Constable only had four matches at 152 pounds, winning three and losing one, notching one victory by pinfall.

One Spring Creek wrestler closed with a 6-2 mark, posted by junior Austin Wirth in the 126-pound division – finishing with four pins.

Senior Gabe Scripter went 5-3 at the league duals, defeating two opponents with pins at 170 pounds.

“The six wrestlers who went 8-0 on the weekend wrestled very well and were the team leaders throughout all the league duals,” said Spring Creek coach Wade Pehrson. “We have one week to fine-tune some of our techniques and be ready for regionals this weekend in Spring Creek.”

Weigh-ins for the Division 3A North regional wrestling tournament will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, the action kicking off at 4 p.m. Friday at Spring Creek High School.

The second-day action will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, the top-three wrestlers in each weight class qualifying for the state tournament – the top-five grapplers from each division in the South earning a bid to the eight-man state tournament.

The Division 3A Nevada State Wrestling Championships will take place Friday, Feb. 9 at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
