ELKO — Since opening in March 2014, Chique, Unique and Antiques has captured readers’ hearts winning gold for Best Consignment Shop, Best Furniture Store, and Best Place to Buy a Unique Gift. The store also earned silver for Best Home Décor and Best Customer Service, retail.
Cindy Peterson’s store is singular. Customers who meander through the 5,000-square-foot store, comprised of items from more than 200 vendors, are certain to find fun, inspiring items. Everything from shabby chic to untouched antique is here.
Peterson easily strikes up conversations with her customers, calling regulars by name. Out-of-towners return from as far away as Alaska and the East Coast to see new items and visit with Peterson and the vendors, some of whom help out once a week.

One of the store’s most popular personalities is the store mascot, Cici. Cici is an animal shelter rescue cat who lives at the store. This fat cat has had its picture taken by tourists from France, Australia, and Germany. Peterson credits the amount of tourist traffic to the Elko Area Chamber of Commerce and their website.
Peterson works hard to please. “I keep a list of things customers are looking for,” she says, reaching for a stack of small blue papers. If something comes to the store that would be of interest to a customer, she’ll give them a call.
Peterson, who is an avid crafter, began Chique, Unique and Antiques because she wanted a place for crafters to share their passion year-round. Not only does the store provide a place to sell distinctive items, but it also is a venue to learn new skills, hosting crafting classes. She tries to have a couple of classes a month.
