ELKO — Once again, Shakespearian theatre returns to Elko.  For six nights this month, “Battle of the Sexes” will be presented in the backyard of the Duncan LittleCreek Gallery Bar located at 516 Commercial St.

The program is being presented by Great Basin College, Duncan LittleCreek Gallery and the Silver Stage Players. Frank Sawyer is directing the play that includes excerpts from “A Midsummer Night's Dream,” “Hamlet,” “Macbeth,” “Taming of the Shrew,” “Romeo and Juliet” and “Love’s Labours Lost.

John Wright is the executive writer partnering up with Shakespeare’s own words.

“This is something new and exciting for Elko,” Sawyer said as he managed the lighting system and carefully analyzed the dress rehearsal.

Rehearsal was indeed a magical experience, as actors in doublets and long gowns strode across the grounds pontificating their whims and woes.

The play portrays the ever-conflicting needs and misunderstandings of the opposing sexes, often with tongue in cheek humor typical of the great playwright.

In Shakespeare’s own words, “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.”

Performances are tonight and Friday and Sept. 18, 20 and 21. Showtime for this feature, performed by an all-local cast, is 7 p.m. each night.

The tickets are $5 per person.

Space is limited at the venue so be sure to come early to grab a seat.
