Manuel Blackhat was born on November 14, 1953 in Owyhee, NV. Passed away September 1, 2017 at 63 years old. He was preceded in death by his mother Pauline Blackhat and daughter Tawnya Blackhat, and Grandparents, George and Ruby Blackhat. He is survived by his children, Brandy Blackhat BullChief, Jeramiah Blackhat, Matthew Blackhat, Eli Blackhat, Mariah Blackhat, Joshua Blackhat and 2 daughters he maintained the role of dad to, Shakea Jim and Valentina Horn; sister, Yvonne Sandoval and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Manuel spoke fluent Shoshone and Paiute.
Manuel worked numerous jobs over the years of his life; construction, carpentry, ranch hand, firefighter, truck driver and more for the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes. He met his former wife and mother of his 5 older children Dialina Pappas Blackhat in 1971 marrying in December 1973. They shared 20 years of love and laughter with each other and their children and divorcing in 1991. Manuel and Arreta Carrillo shared their son Joshua Blackhat. He has 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Manuel is remembered for his kindness and those who knew Manuel knew he always brought laughter and jokes to all. His passions and joy were working cows and horses, roping in rodeo’s, going to the Boise Auction, making rope baskets, cradleboards, beaded capes, along with loving his horses, humming birds and buffalo. Manuel enjoyed hunting elk, deer, rabbit, sagehens and hogs and fishing. He spent the spring months in Hawaii with his son Jeramiah. Manuel was a good man and was loved deeply by his family and many friends and relatives.
Services were held at the HDC on September 7, 2017 on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation in Owyhee, Nevada and laying him to rest in the Blackhat family plot.
