Mary Ann Elliott was born on April 17, 1945 to Martin and Mary Gansemer in Dyersville, Iowa where she was raised. In 1963 she graduated from Xavier High School and in August of 1967 she met the love of her life, Michael Elliott. While staying with her childhood friend, Sandy Ferreter (Bildstein), Sandy’s fiancé, Darrell Ferreter, stopped by and brought his good buddy, Mike Elliott with him. This was the beginning of a long life together for Mike and Mary Ann.
Michael James Elliott was born on August 28, 1942 to James and Eleanora Elliott in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the age of 8, Mike’s parents moved the family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and this is when he became friends with Darrell. Mike and Darrell graduated from Jefferson High in 1960 and both were drafted together on May 18, 1964. They went through basic training, toured Germany, Italy and Switzerland and came home on the same boat together. After Mike was honorably discharged, he married Mary Ann on April 20, 1968 in Iowa. They had two children, Seth and Shannon and in March of 1975, Mike and Mary Ann packed up their family and belongings and moved to Pocatello, Idaho where Mike quickly found work as a mechanic. By 1981 both of them worked at Bucyrus Erie and were laid off, which led them to move to Tonopah, Nevada and start their mining careers. Mike worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and Mary Ann worked as a heavy equipment operator. While working in the mines, they moved their family to Wyoming, Arizona and then in 1992 moved to Elko, NV where Mike and Mary Ann worked at Barrick Goldstrike until they retired. Moving around allowed them to see many nice places, National Parks and landmarks. Their favorite places to visit were Lake Tahoe and Yellowstone. Family was important to them and they made sure to visit them in Iowa when they could. They also loved to watch their grandsons, Cy and Nick Elliott growing up, which is evident by the many pictures Mary Ann took of them. Mike and Mary Ann also kept their strong friendship with Sandy and Darrell Ferreter for the rest of their lives.
After battling cancer for many years, Mary Ann went home on February 29, 2016. Mike became heartbroken after her death and his health steadily declined. In late October he had a mild stroke and was hospitalized. On December 5, 2016 Mike was reunited with his bride as she escorted him home with her. The 9 months after Mary Ann’s death was the longest they had ever been apart and there is comfort in knowing that they are once again together, forever, without suffering. Mike and Mary Ann will be missed greatly as they were loved greatly. As per their request, there will be no public service. Their ashes will be buried together in Northern Idaho, close to their daughter. They are both survived by their son, Seth (Tracy) Elliott, grandsons, Cy and Nick Elliott all of Spring Creek, NV and by their daughter Shannon (Brian) McLaughlin of Priest River, ID.
