August 11, 1966—January 10, 2018

Our Mona, so much accomplished in a life cut short. Born at the Elko General Hospital in 1966, Mona Ispisua Carter attended elementary school at Grammar School #2 through 6th grade and later at Independence Valley School (Tuscarora ) for 7th and 8th grade. She graduated from Elko High School in 1983 during which time she was active in Debate, Theater and Band (She twirled rifles & marched in the Rose Bowl parade, and got her beautiful face on TV during the pre-parade show). In 1991 she married Neil Thompson and soon moved to Orange County, CA where their first child, Nicholas, was born in 1994. After moving back to Elko, they welcomed their daughter Olivia into the world in 1997.

Mona lived a full life, enriched by love and friendship. She was a loving and fun filled mother, a devoted friend and she brightened every room that she entered. Her laugh was hearty and genuine. She valued and accepted people for who they were and she encouraged those around her to be the best they could be. Although her life was cut short, she succeeded in squeezing everything she could out of the years she had. While she was working full time and raising her two children, she still managed to finish a four year degree in social work.

She loved fishing and camping and rock-hounding and just enjoying the out of doors. There never was a rock she didn’t love and want to take home!!

Mona embraced the time she had hanging out with family and friends.

She will always be remembered and greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son Nicholas (Amanda) and grandson Kasin, daughter Olivia, parents Hank and Wendy Ispisua; brother, Jason and wife Victoria and their children Logan and Gavin and many aunts and uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00AM, April 7, 2018 at Burns Funeral Home with lunch right after at The Basque House
