Rachel Susanna Rand Jones at the age 89, passed away surrounded by family on October 16, 2017. She was born on November 29, 1927 to William R. Rand and Ella Hildebrand Rand in Pine Valley, Nevada, the youngest of four children and the only daughter. She was raised in Pine Valley and attended her elementary school at the one room school house on the ranch having her mother as the school teacher. The family moved to Reno, Nevada where she graduated high school in June of 1944. Rachel attend the University of Reno and received her Associates Degree in 1946. She then went to the University of California for nursing and graduated with her RN.
Rachel returned to Elko, Nevada where she started working at Elko General Hospital as a nurse. She met her husband Melvin Jones through her brother Willie. Melvin and Rachel where married December of 1960 in Elko, NV with the celebration of this event in the old school house Palisades, NV. Rachel and Melvin had five children. Rachel was involved in ranching which was her lifelong passion ending her journey at the Jones Ranch in Carlin, NV. Rachel, for years, was a fixture at the Elko County Fair. Besides her passion for ranching she enjoyed cooking, gardening, needlepoint and raising her family.
Rachel is survived by her daughters Helen (Ross) Gochnour, Burley ID; Cherie (Jim) Aiazzi, Carlin, NV; sons Robert (Brenda) Jones, Carlin, NV; and David “Hoss” (Karla) Jones, Carlin, NV. Grandchildren Giuseppe Aiazzi, Silverton OR; Justin (Delilah) Cooper, Laramie, WY; Angelina (Bob) DeMars, Carlin, NV; Melissa Jones, Carlin, NV; and Kris Jones, Carlin, NV. Six Great-Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousin, and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin Jones, son Richard “Dick” Jones and brothers Willie, Joe and Jack Rand.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carlin Senior Center or a charity of your choice.
A service for Rachel will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017, Carlin LDS Church on 2nd and Bush Street, Carlin, NV. There will be a luncheon following the service in the cultural hall at the church.
