July 1, 1950 – June 30, 2018
Tony Martin Latham, known by many as TJ, was born to Petra and Roscoe Latham in Mojave, California, on July 1, 1950. He passed away on June 30, 2018.
Tony grew up cattle ranching, working with and following his father, Roscoe, to many California and Nevada rangelands. At the age of 20 he took over management of a large cattle operation in Bishop, California. He later moved back to Nevada, working on cattle ranches while managing his own herd. The last 15 years of his life were spent as a miner for Barrack and Newmont before retiring in 2015.
Tony graduated from CCHS in Fallon and attended CalPoly University and UNR, where he was captain of the rodeo team. He was a talented bareback rider and roper, competing on the rodeo circuit for many years.
Tony was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ray Latham and he is survived by his wife, Trudy; daughters, Brook and Anna; grandchildren, Rosie, Daniel, Silas and Thea. He is also survived by nieces Alicia Floyd and Marcia Austero, and nephew Greg Latham.
Tony was a friendly, gentle man who lived by high standards of compassion, hard work and honesty. He loved his family and friends deeply, and his absence is something they find achingly difficult to comprehend.
In the late spring Tony’s ashes will be spread and a marker placed in the Smokey Valley, a place he always felt he could go to heal.
