ELKO — An innovative, new electronic dance festival is coming to Elko.

The first-year organization Red, White & Jam! is hosting a music event of the same name. The nonprofit organization was founded by Elko residents Eddie Rodriguez, Chris Paiano, Chisholm Morris and Erica Patrick.

“We wanted to bring something different to Elko,” Rodriguez said. “We would always have to travel out of town to go to concerts for music that we liked since there was nothing like that in Elko. We want to bring the fun here.”

Red, White & JAM! is a teen and up (14 and older) electronic dance festival with high energy music mixed by live performance DJs, Mixmaster C!RCU!T and DJ ED-E, as well as an opening performance from local synthesizer musician Ryan McEntire.

The Red, White & JAM! event is coming Saturday to the Igloo Recreation Center, 1515 Silver St. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the dance will last until midnight.

Rodriguez said he is expecting people anywhere in the age range of 14-25. He’s not sure how many people will show up, but judging by the responses the group has received online, he hopes to see a decent crowd.

“We brought the idea to the owners of the Igloo and they loved it,” Rodriguez said. “They helped us promote it. We are now on Facebook and Twitter and we’ve gotten some great feedback.”

Sue Craft, president of the Igloo Rec Center, said the facility is made for these types of events and is less pricey compared to other venues around town.

“The Igloo’s mission is designed to allow organizations a venue to host their events,” Craft said. “It’s exciting to bring something new to this community. They came to us and since they are designated as a 501(c)7 social organization they fit the criteria to have an event at the Igloo.”

Tickets can be purchased at the price of $10 per person in advance by mailing a money order to PO Box 2265, Elko, NV 89801 or at the door of the event, depending on availability. All proceeds will go toward putting together another local concert.
