CARSON CITY -- Gov. Brian Sandoval has proclaimed June 29 as a day to celebrate "Basque Heritage and Culture in Nevada."
Local dancers and musicians will be representing Nevada from June 29-July 4 and from July 7-10 at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C.
To commemorate the event, Elko native Vince Juaristi has written a series of articles on how Basque and American cultures have “intertwined.” The five-part series concludes today with an article on page C2 of today’s Elko Daily Free Press.
Elko’s annual National Basque Festival is also coming up, with events planned throughout town from July 1-3.
