ELKO – The Elko Libertarian Party invites the public to attend a school safety town hall meeting 6:30 p.m. March 15 at Grace Baptist Church.
The town hall will feature a panel discussion and an audience question and answer session.
Panelists include Elko County School District Superintendent Jeff Zander, Assemblyman John Ellison, Elko County Commissioner Jon Karr, Elko County Sheriff Jim Pitts, Sgt. Jim Carpenter, Elko Police Chief Ben Reed and Spring Creek High School teacher Daniel Mendez.
Sean Fericks, coordinator with the Elko Libertarian Party, said the forum will offer discussion on school safety in light of the recent school shooting in Florida.
“Panelists will explain school safety challenges and our current state of readiness,” Fericks said. “They will dispel false rumors, provide answers to common questions, and explain how current federal, state, and local laws impact our faculty, teachers and students.”
The community is encouraged to send questions for the panelists ahead of the town hall meeting, which can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
“We will do our best to address as many of these as possible during the panel discussion,” Fericks said, adding that the Libertarian Party “values open, honest, respectful communication between officials and citizens.”
