ELKO – Benefits assistance for Native American veterans will be offered by the Nevada Department of Veteran Services 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the Red Lion Inn and Casino.

Coming on the heels of a two-day workshop for Nevada Veteran Advocates, the extra day was recently added to give Native Americans who have served in the military a day to receive additional benefits and claims assistance, said Terri Hendry, communications director for the Nevada Department of Veteran Services.

“We added an additional day specifically for Native American Veterans because the numbers show per capita, Native Americans have the highest rates of military service, but rarely claim the benefits they have earned though serving our country,” she said. “This is a terrific way to provide assistance to these veterans in a way that is convenient for them.”
