Photos from history: Kansas family murdered in cold blood

  • 0

On Nov. 15, 1959, four members of the Clutter family of Holcomb, Kansas, were found murdered in their home.

The brutal farmhouse slayings in which the victims were bound and shot, gripped the nation and shattered its sense of security. Ex-convicts Richard Hickock and Perry Smith were caught, and later convicted and hanged for the killings.

The case was made famous by the non-fiction book "In Cold Blood," written by the American author Truman Capote and first published in 1966.
