ELKO - Patriotism will be on full display this Fourth of July.

Celebrations are planned in Elko, Spring Creek, Carlin and Wells.

As usual, Elko's celebration coincides with the National Basque Festival.

After festival-related activities through the day, a fireworks display will be set off at the Elko County Fairgrounds at dusk.

A pre-fireworks program is set to begin at 6 p.m., and gates open at 5 p.m. The program will feature speakers, soldiers and presentations by the VFW and POW/MIA.

Organizer John Ellison said this year's event is going to be bigger than ever.

"It's going to be a beautiful show," he said.

Suggested admission is $2.50 for adults and $1 for children, but Ellison said no one will be turned away if they cannot afford to pay.

Box seats for six are still available in the grandstands for $125. Tickets are available at KELK, from any Lion's Club member or at Ellison Electric, 438 S. Fifth St..

In Spring Creek the celebration starts a day early.

At 6 a.m. July 3 registration begins for a 5k Freedom Fun Run/Walk, which starts at 7 a.m.

At 6:15 a.m. the POW/MIA will hold a flag raising ceremony at the Spring Creek Marina, and at 10 a.m. the parade begins. The route is along Spring Creek Parkway from Glen Vista to Park Chester drives. This year's theme is "We the People."

On July 4, starting at 11 a.m. there will be vendors, children's games and horseshoes at the marina. At 2 p.m. is an Army/Navy Volleyball Challenge.

Among the vendors will be a food booth by Party Time Rental to raise money for the Gowing family to help cover medical expenses. Meals of hamburgers, hot dogs and chorizos will be available for a suggested $4 donation.
