ELKO — The POW*MIA Elko Awareness Association is planning a ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday for POW*MIA Awareness Day.
The ceremony will be on the Elko County Courthouse lawn.
The City of Elko and Elko County both approved proclamations this week designating Wednesday as POW*MIA Elko Awareness Day and dismay at the one-year anniversary of the capture of U.S. Army Private First Class Bowe Robert Bergdahl in Afghanistan.
In order to honor Bergdahl, the POW*MIA Elko Awareness Association will post yard signs with pictures of Bergdahl, as well as American flags, on the courthouse lawn.
Betsy Brian with the POW*MIA Elko Awareness Association said there will also be a flag ceremony.
Community members interested in more information about obtaining a sign should contact Brian at 934-9052 by Monday.
Those who purchase a sign can choose to include a picture of Bergdahl or someone else they’d like to honor, Brian said.
The POW*MIA is asking for a $5 donation for each sign and part of the proceeds will go toward the National League of Families.
