JACKPOT – A license plate check resulted in high-speed chase involving Elko County and Twin Falls authorities.
Deputies found a truck parked near the Idaho border on U.S. Highway 93 last week, according to Elko County Sheriff Jim Pitts. A check revealed the vehicle was stolen, prompting a search for the driver.
The driver, Bret Harold Charlton, 55, of Pocatello, returned to the truck and drove south on Highway 93 pursued by Elko County Sheriff’s deputies.
Charlton turned around in Jackpot and headed north, continuing to the Idaho border where the chase was picked up by Twin Falls County Sheriff’s deputies.
Charlton drove into a field after his tires were spiked, and he was arrested on Idaho felony warrants.
Further investigation revealed Charlton was using stolen plates on a truck that he owned, said Pitts.
Charlton was charged by Idaho authorities with eluding, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, and possession of paraphernalia. He was arraigned Aug. 10. His bail is $250,000.
