ELKO – Surveillance footage revealed the theft of cash from a misplaced wallet, and leads to the arrest of two people.

According to Elko Police Lt. Ty Trouten, a couple was gambling in a local casino Friday night when the man misplaced his wallet. He reported it to authorities before they left.

The on site cameras filmed another man and woman in the casino, allegedly showing the man picking up the wallet near some gaming machines and taking it into the men’s room.

Trouten said he took the cash and left the wallet there.

The police department reviewed the footage and picked up Jeremy M. Luther, 23, and Ashley C. McKinzie, 23, both of Elko on Saturday. They recovered a portion of the stolen cash.

Luther was arrested for grand larceny of less than $3,500 and buying, possessing, or receiving stolen property worth less than $650. McKinzie was arrested for use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Luther’s bail was set at $11,140 and McKinzie’s was listed at $640.
