ELKO – A Spring Creek man was arrested for allegedly injuring a dog and bestiality involving a dog Saturday morning.
Thomas Copland, 32, was charged with the crimes when a sheriff’s deputy noted significant injuries to a dog that was last known to be in Copland’s possession before the injuries occurred, according to the Elko County Sheriff’s Office.
The dog had two safety pins stuck in it, and it appeared to have suffered injuries from burns.
The deputy believed other injuries the dog sustained were consistent with bestiality and went to Copland’s residence to make the arrest.
A woman who stays at the residence with Copland gave deputies permission to search the home. They soon found Copland hiding in the closet and said he knew that authorities were looking for him. He was taken into custody.
Copland’s bail was set at $30,000.
