ELKO – The Elko County Sheriff’s Office has released a photo of a vehicle spotted at the scene of a deadly home invasion Saturday night on Wrangler Circle, and is seeking information from the public that would help identify and locate suspects.
The homeowner was killed and a suspect critically injured in a gunfight that erupted after three men kicked in a door to the residence.
The vehicle then traveled from Wrangler Circle in the Sundance Subdivision to Wongobi Street on the Upper Indian Colony in Elko.
Investigators are seeking information from anyone who may have seen this vehicle traveling along any possible route between the above addresses between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. the night of July 7.
“Additionally, we are requesting residents or businesses on any possible route between the above addresses examine any security camera footage they may have, for the time mentioned above, for the pictured vehicle,” stated the sheriff’s office.
Anyone with information regarding any aspect of this crime is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 738-3421 and ask for the Detective Division, or call the Secret Witness line at 738-HELP if they choose to remain anonymous.
Homeowner Bradley Smith, 33, was wounded several times in the gun battle and died after being taken to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital, according to Elko County Sheriff Jim Pitts.
Tieres A. Lopez Sr., 23, of Elko was being held in Elko County Jail without bail on charges of first-degree murder, robbery and attempted home invasion.
Pitts said three men were apparently trying to break into the home on the outskirts of Elko at about 11:30 p.m. when a gun battle broke out between the intruders and the resident. He did not know who fired first.
“They kicked in the front door,” Pitts said. “And then that’s when the gun battle took place inside the house.”
One of the intruders was injured and later located at a residence on Wongobi Street. He was taken to the hospital and then transferred to an out-of-state medical facility. His name has not been released.
Investigators are attempting to locate additional suspects.
