ELKO – Two more high school students are named in a criminal complaint against a former Wells elementary teacher that was filed in justice court last week.
Tennille Whitaker was arrested in June on charges of sexual conduct with two Wells High School students between the ages of 16 and 18 years old.
Court documents filed Aug. 29 by the Elko County District Attorney’s office show Whitaker faces 12 counts of sexual conduct between a school employee or volunteer and pupil, a category C felony, among four male high school students.
One student is listed in seven counts, two more students are listed in two counts, and one student is listed in one count.
The three teens were 16 and older at the time of the incidents and the encounters occurred on school property and other locations, according to the criminal complaint.
Whitaker resigned from the Elko County School District last month. She was employed by the district for 11 years and taught at Wells Elementary School.
A preliminary hearing on Sept. 11 was postponed after a waiver was filed in Elko Justice Court. A new hearing was set for Nov. 3.
Whitaker was released from custody on bail the day after her arrest.
